Hi! I’m Christine!
I’m an artist, designer, and crafter based in Dallas, and I own a baby product company called Little Kims.
After working in a highly technical and intense career in consulting that wore on my health and happiness, I decided to change course and follow my spirit’s calling to embark on a journey to pursue my creativity. This led me to product design school, teaching myself how to knit, and ultimately to Parsons in NYC to embark on a new career in fashion design.
Since then, I have always turned to doing something creative when I needed to relax, heal, or have fun accomplishing a new project. Knitting was one of those portable crafts that I turned to after I had gone through some tough times and needed to heal.
I began this website with knitting because knitting had brought me so much happiness and I saw knitting as a tool for tapping into the creative, joyful side of life. The rhythmic nature of knitting is also highly therapeutic and I knew it could help people find peace and joy through the process of learning a new creative, tactile skill. It also gives the satisfaction of creating something you love by using our hands.
How This Website Came About
After I completed my first scarf, I had put knitting down until the following winter and forgot how to knit! I needed to re-teach myself. Then, I put it down again for another year, and I forgot again!
This constant forgetting of techniques as a beginner made me decide to create a video for myself that I could watch to re-learn the craft I already knew. 😂 So, I created a series of videos for myself.
Then, I thought, maybe others have this problem too, so, I posted those videos on YouTube to share with others. This was way back in the early days of YouTube. I left the videos there for years, checking in whenever I needed to re-learn how to knit, but after several years, I didn’t need them anymore.
After leaving the videos up on YouTube for many years, I checked one day to see that over a hundred thousand people had learned to knit through my videos! Wow! That was unexpected! I didn’t know that many people wanted to learn how to knit. I thought… maybe one day, I should make this more formal and provide proper videos and classes.
10 years later, I did try to do just that. I spent a lot of time creating a course to teach people how to knit and launched it to a small group of people.
You see, although I knew how to knit a garter stitch scarf, for years that was all I COULD knit! I had no idea how to knit different patterns, like ribbing, lace, cables, or how to knit a hat or gloves! Sweaters were out of the question. It all seemed so intimidating at first.
Once I finally learned, I realized that I could have learned all of these skills much earlier, as it wasn’t quite as difficult as I had imagined.
I just didn’t have a class to teach me, so I had to struggle by learning one pattern at a time, and by researching each technique. I eventually took classes at fashion school to learn more advanced techniques.
I designed my knitting course to help the aspiring knitter go from an absolute beginner to learning more advanced skills like ribbing, cables and lace, and to learn them in a much shorter length of time than I had to go through!
About Christine Kim Studio
Christine Kim Studio was created to help you tap into your creativity by teaching you skills from the absolute beginner level. Although I started this website with just knitting, I’ve done so many other types of crafts since then, and I wanted to share these passions with others! Rather than having a website just dedicated to knitting, I’ve decided to change the format of my website to a blog so that I can provide a lot more content about a variety of crafts.
I received inspiration from so many others crafters out there, so I wanted to do the same with my own designs and projects, whether it be with knitting, crochet, sewing, fashion design, needle punch, weaving, embroidery, latch hook, needle punch, paper crafts, and even art.
My mission is to help you find joy by engaging in creative projects, and help you unleash your creativity by giving you new skills and projects to enjoy.
I will be creating different programs to teach you different creative skills. My goal is to make these classes fun and easy, but to also challenge you to higher levels of skill and creativity.
